Inside Our School We believe that it is important for children to begin their educational lives by developing their social skills through participation in group activities as well as free play in a multiage, supportive, fun environment. Our children enjoy a varied and stimulating classroom under the direction of our teacher, Mrs. Suzanne Foote, who has more than 20 years of teaching experience. Parent Helpers By helping our teacher in class on a regular shared schedule, EIP members form relationships with their children's classmates and with other parents, and learn firsthand what goes on at school. Parent work contributions in the classroom, and in our cleaning and maintenance responsibilities, allow us to maintain a high classroom adult-to-child ratio (a maximum of 16 children to 3 adults), keep tuition costs low, and give our preschoolers a personal example of community involvement. Younger siblings are welcome to attend with parent helpers, when necessary! Our Classroom Here is one of our monthly school calendars (thanks to Mrs. Foote!). As the children arrive each morning, they find a choice of table activities, which may include construction toys, play dough, and puzzles. Then we gather for circle time. We have songs, dances, stories, and a variety of fun learning activities. Themes for the day or week are woven through the group activities. We have plenty of free play time, when the children can explore our collection of books, toys and art materials, and science and manipulatives tables. They may watch our pet turtle, or explore a new special area which might be a post office, pet shop, doctor’s office or ice cream parlor. Sometimes we bake, make pizza, or make playdough! We clean up together, sit down to eat a snack together, and then head outside to our fenced, shaded and well-equipped grassy playground. If the weather is too cold or wet, we go upstairs to the gym where we have plenty of space, trikes, balls and cars for noisy fun until pickup time! Every month we go on a field trip to places like an orchard, the library, a museum, or the post office. We have visitors too, from the fire department, and Hubert the horse! Parents may bring us a new story or song, or a special project. Every day is different, though carefully structured by our teacher's academic plan. One thing is for certain, you know your children will have fun!
